Cool things in music #1
Come for the acoustic versions of EDM songs, stay for the fish recordings
Hello! Welcome here.
I am in the process of researching a few bigger projects that will be featured here on Substack soon, so I have a shorter post for you today. There are so many cool things happening in relation to music right now, I thought I would compile some of my faves.
Please respond to this email and let me know if you like this kind of content and want to see more of it here in the future!
Thanks for reading đ¶
1) Sound is healing coral reefs
A fantastic exploration of science and acoustic ecology by NPR. Iâve been down an acoustic ecology rabbit hole since reading. Come for the happy ending, stay for the sea-life recordings.
2) âIt Rocks in the Tree Tops, but Is That Bird Making Music?â
From my acoustic ecology rabbit hole, a very cool piece about the origin and structure of music transcending species. A reminder that music is grounded in nature.
3) Ethel Cain and Kiernan Shipka on Nihilism and Nightmares
âWeâve reached a point in art where the more corporate side of things has taken over, and it dictates how much creativity an artist has based on how much itâs going to sell.â - Ethel Cain (Legal name, Hayden Anhedönia)
This discussion on the stigma of pop music, corporate music, and musical storytelling has really stuck with me. Anhedönia is a true artist.
4) EDM artists are releasing acoustic versions of their songs and Iâm into it
Highly recommend listening to both versions back to back.
